Continuing our pledge to reduce our carbon footprint

Press Release

Sustainable eatery Chop’d continues its pledge to reduce its carbon footprint by partnering with Beat the Receipt and Re:Water.

Since being founded in 2004, Chop’d’s vision has been a world where caring for the environment is part of a business’s DNA. Chop’d were the first UK company to use salad bowls with partly recycled material, and now all plastic containers sold are 100% recyclable and 100% made from recycled materials.

The first partnership will raise awareness for excessive paper receipts, with Beat the Receipt aiming to help Chop’d customers reduce their carbon footprint. Paper receipts contain the same chemicals used in single-use plastic, making them impossible to recycle.

Every year around 200,000 trees are destroyed in order to supply the UK with paper receipts, and Chop’d joins other brands such as Dunelm, Paperchase, and Holland and Barret set on reducing that number substantially.

Samantha Lind, campaigner at Beat the Receipt, said: “Chop’d have always been a forward-thinking company when it comes to the environment, so it’s great that they’ve now signed the Paperless Pledge and made paper receipts completely optional in all their stores.

“Paper receipts account for tens of thousands of tons of carbon emissions every single year, and most of them end up straight in the bin, so we hope the rest of the industry will now follow their lead and help us Beat the Receipt.”

The second partnership is with Re:Water, the world’s first 100% recycled aluminium Spring Water bottle. Developed in response to the growing global problem of single-use materials, it’s a genuine alternative to single-use plastic. The aluminium bottle keeps the water cooler and fresher for longer, and once finished, it can be refilled, reused and recycled.

All Chop’d stores will start the switch from plastic bottled water to Re: Water’s aluminium bottle, which is widely and infinitely recyclable in the UK.

Victoria Healy, Chop’d Operations Director said, “Since we first opened in 2004, sustainability has been at the heart of Chop’d’s philosophy. From day one, Chop’d have helped customers make greener choices by rewarding them with free veggies for refusing a bag and encouraging customers to bring reusable containers. We’re excited to be continuing this vision with both partnerships; Beat the Receipt and Re:Water.“

Chopd, which was recently acquired by Inc Retail, has always put environmental initiatives first, it’s estimated that since 2014 Chop’d customers have saved more than 200,000 plastic containers and three million plastic bags from ending up in the UK’s landfills. With these two new partnerships, Chop’d are looking forward to further reducing its customers’ carbon footprint.

We’re reopening on April 12th

Chop’d | Opening April 12th

Chop’d is very excited to be able to announce that we will be opening 6 of our London stories on April 12th. As lockdown rules ease and the world begins to open once more, we can’t wait to be able to serve new flavours and old favourites to loyal customers and new ones alike.

As we look to welcome both new and familiar faces into our stores for their lunch-time fix, we’ve also made some incredibly tasty additions to our menu, from our Spring Salmon Special and Jerk Chicken Salad to our Vegan-friendly Freeka – yum!

We’re planning our Liverpool, Leeds, and Manchester stores in due time and we promise that we’ve got some very exciting things in store. However, in the meantime, the locations that will be opening on April 12th are:

  • Canary Wharf, London
  • City Point, London
  • Curzon Street, London
  • Long Acre, London
  • Mark Lane, London
  • St. Pauls, London

And did you know that you can also pre-order your food for click and collect at these stores, or even get your food ordered to your house or office (or wherever else you may be!) through our brand new app? That will sure help beat the post-lockdown rush! The app is available on iOS and Android, and of course, free to download.

To celebrate the launch of our new app, we’re also running a competition to give 3 lucky people the chance to win their share of £180 to spend at Chop’d. It looks like lunch is on us! More details on how to enter here.

So now we countdown the hours until we can welcome our customers back, and our Chief Salad Officer, Eddie Holmes has a word or two for you all:

‘As the teams work hard to get our stores ready to open, we’re nothing but excited to get back to serving high quality and sustainable food, and doing what we love.

With our new app, new website, and new digital screens in stores, lots of things have changed at Chop’d, but one thing that hasn’t is that we will always put the customer first, and we remain dedicated to serving food that we’d be happy to not only eat ourselves but also feed our own children.’

New website, digital screens & mobile ordering

Chop’d confirmed its commitment to a bumper opening with a huge tech investment to help diners beat the queue and safely order when it reopens stores on the 12th of April.

The investment will see the installation of state-of-the-art digital screens, website and a new Chop’d app, available for iOS, Android and web, allowing customers to click and collect in seconds from their smartphone or computer with a freshly made, tasty lunch ready to go in minutes.

Along with the mobile app, a substantial investment has been made in digital signage, which will make it quicker and easier to see daily specials and seasonal food favourites.

Chopd’s app was created in partnership with Qikserve, an enterprise platform specialising in flexible, touchless ordering and payment solutions for hospitality businesses.

Dan Shaw, Managing Director of parent group Inc Retail, said “The customer experience within our Chop’d stores up and down the country is and always has been Chop’d’s No.1 priority. Our new app for Apple and Android phones will simplify the ordering and pickup experience by enabling our customers to order and collect, quickly, but more importantly safely during the pandemic. I encourage our customers to download the app ready for when our stores begin a phased opening on April 12th.

“Qikserve have been an ideal partner in creating this seamless experience and we’re impressed with their technical experience and infrastructure that underpins our new mobile experience.”

Nick Hucker, Chief Revenue Office at QikServe said, “Chop’d is a vibrant brand that anyone who works or lives in London knows and loves; its focus on healthy, locally sourced and sustainable produce is exactly what consumers want in 2021.

“Returning to offices, we know that employees will be looking for quick, safe and reliable ways to purchase their food, so we’re thrilled to be powering Chop’d’s new digital ordering service. We’re confident that the ability to order and pay ahead will enhance the customer experience, generate fresh customer loyalty and make advocates of regular guests.”

We’ve been acquired by Inc Retail

Chop’d, the locally sourced & sustainable high street eatery has been acquired by Inc Retail. The deal brings together Chop’d and recent acquisition, KNOMO London and Laundrapp, into the newly expanding retail group.

The group, set up to transform and redefine retail, now boasts three brands, both of which will be led by industry expert and Managing Director, Dan Shaw.

Boasting sustainability accolades and industry firsts, Chop’d was the first retailer to launch a UK manufactured 100% recycled salad bowl and additionally the first and only retailer to sell reusable salad bowls to date saving over 200,000 plastic bowls. A lunch-time favourite, Chop’d is popular with business professionals who opt for a fresh, locally sourced lunch.

Speaking of the acquisition, Managing Director for Inc Retail Group, Dan Shaw said; “Chop’d have a unique product offering which fits perfectly within the retail group and as a brand has always sourced 100% of its produce from the U.K, including having saved over 3.5 million plastic bags from going to waste since inception. This alone shows what a worthwhile cause Chop’d are, and I’m excited to have them join us as part of the Inc Retail offering.

Established in 2004, Chop’d has stores in Manchester, Leeds & London, all of which will stay open in the deal which will see the current team and brand continue to grow as all jobs will be kept in the share purchase.

Eddie Holmes, MD of Chop’d said about the acquisition, “The team and I are extremely excited to have this opportunity to reinvigorate Chop’d and allow us to bring our super healthy, tasty, sustainable food back to our faithful customers and to those yet to discover us. We just can’t wait to get started”.

Jack Mason, Group CEO of parent company, Inc & Co said; “We recently announced the purchase of retail brand KNOMO, and this purchase of Chop’d will bring yet another exciting and unique brand into Inc Retail Group, which will redefine what the high street means to all of us.

Being a customer of Chop’d has meant I have seen first hand the inspiring work the company has championed, and I’m looking forward to seeing Dan and his team grow the brand to new heights.”As part of the acquisition, there will be significant investment in expanding the menu offering, website and back-end ordering systems which will breathe a fresh new life into the brand that consumers know and love.
